Hi Viz Mendip

Each month we approach a noted equine specialist or trainer to endorse our ‘Hi Viz Mendip’ campaign; in which we encourage all our members and their friends to wear Hi Visibility clothing when riding out.

One very important issue this campaign has already brought to light is the fact that insurance companies may not honour a claim if you are not ‘properly prepared to ride on the road’.

This edition we hear from Lesley Bayley, Editor NFU Countryside Magazine, international equestrian author and Equine Muscle Release Therapist.

“Riding on the roads is becoming more hazardous and it is vital that you can be easily seen. As an equine therapist I have treated horses involved in road accidents – thankfully the horses and riders were all okay but their stories could so easily have had much sadder endings. A friend of mine ended up in hospital and her horse was killed following a road accident – don’t let your hack out end in tragedy, make sure you are highly visible”.
