Feeling Better with MBBA
On Monday 10th May, 50 spectators arrived at the large indoor school at Kingfisher Equestrian to watch Equine Sports Therapist, Catherine Howes, demonstrate horse massage and manipulation to members and friends of Mendip Bridleways & Byways Association.
Mrs Lindsay Fookes of Lamyatt very kindly provided two impeccably behaved horses, Storm and Fox, for the demonstration. Catherine, who has trained extensively both in America and in this country, began by explaining how important it is that both horse and rider should each receive a regular check-up as an unbalanced rider will always jeopardise her good work!
Fox stood patiently as Catherine palpated him and discovered a couple of stiff and tight areas. She released these with pressure and made a couple of minor adjustments to his lower back.
After a short break for coffee and cakes, it was then the turn of dapple grey, Storm. Having distributed explanatory notes on the her work, Catherine ran through a simple stretching routine she had devised, that would benefit all horses, improving their mobility, length of stride and general comfort.
For those who didn't get a copy of the notes at the event, they can now be downloaded in Rich Text Format (RTF) by clicking here.
